You cannot be arrested for owing money. If a collection rep. even hints at such an action being taken against you. She/he is in violation of Federal/State laws, and can be in serious trouble. An agency that has "bought" your account from the original creditor can take legal action such as a lawsuit. If they win they can garnish wages, bank accounts and take other legal actions to recover money that is owed. The amount of garnishment that can be ordered or other property seized is governed by state laws (in some cases Federal and State laws apply). You have many rights that afford you protection from actions of collection agencies/creditors. I don't know what state you reside in so I can't be specific. Please email me if you would care to discuss this further. Take Care
Can my salary be garnished if I have not missed a child support payment
Doubt you will be able to stop it now. If you were late, once then there is the assumption you will be late again, and garnishment gaurantees the payment is made and on time. Sorry, contact the company you owe and talk with them, that will be your only hope I think.
These are any costs that a mortgage company has incurred in the collection or servicing of a mortgage. An example of a corporate advance fee would be if the second mortgage company makes a payment to the first mortgage company.
If you have a collection agency working for the credit card company then it is them you need to make payments too as it is now too late to pay the credit card company. They have sold the debt to the collection company and you will have to pay any charges on top of the debt now also. Try not to let it get that far in future, but that's easier said than done.
No...not looking up the law for you. They cannot.
What may happen is the court will give the "Creditor" the ruling to Garnish Wages. Its a good idea to WRITE a letter to the creditor or Collection agency and see if you can reduce what you owe. You can negotiate a lower payment. Make sure you can afford that payment. What may happen is the court will give the "Creditor" the ruling to Garnish Wages. If the collection agency did not accept your payment, the debt should be discharged from their control. You might need to contact an attorney to make sure these debts are removed from your credit report. If you are making payments to the company that sent you to collections, they will need to remove you from the collections agency.
No, if the OC accepted your payment then it's case closed

Depending from state to state, most collection agencies cannot garnish your check unless you have signed for them to do so or they have a court order to do so. If you have signed I believe you can still rescind that agreement if you are current on payments. You can consult an attorney free of charge over the phone if necessary, find one in your area.
Yes. There are many companys that do this. They work with the creditors and help you make the payments that you can afford.
Yes, employees of the government can have their checks garnished. You should call and set up a payment arrangement to avoid this.
things like this usually are after a couple months of non payment

I would imaging that it would. A collection is a collection, reguardles if it is becasue you refuse to pay it or you want to pay, but you can't. You may be able to work with the collection company to get a payment plan started and have them upadte it to "Paying as agreed"
