You can always press a case. Is the person liable? The judge or jury will decide. It may be wise to try arbitration or negotiation first. Consult a legal professional. They are cheap or free, at least upon an initial consultation. Fault (liability) can be subjective, and it will be determined by the court (if it comes to that).

∙ 11y agoIf the attacking dog was unprovoked (your dog didn't bark at/bite other dog), the I would say that you should at least file a police report. Even if there is nothing that can happen this time, if multiple reports are file against a single dog, then that dog may be euthanized for the protection of all other dogs it may come into contact with.

Well one pro could be that the dog may be protecting its owner, like in the situation of a person attacking the dog's owner. And or for police because some dogs are train to fight and if have to kill; I think.
