NOt likely unless you have a huge amount of memory on your iphone because all the locations and such are streaming information from the internet. But thinking of it again, maybe there's a way using only a satellite but offhand i don't think so. If you use third party software you dont need internet connectiong to download maps, because the maps are saved on the iphone memory. But you have toe buy this software from APPSTORE and it cost more around 100$

If you are not in range of a WiFi connection you can not connect to the internet except through a PC USB connection. With the iPhone you are provided with an EXTRA means of connecting to the Internet, that is through the phone service provider's clephone/data link. This private connection to the internet through your mobile provider is charged for. However I belive that that iPhone can also be configured to link to the internet via WiFi (like the Touch) if you are in range of a WiFi service.
