I was waiting "for something better to come out" when I bought the D5100 in June, 2011. Now, in November, they do have the new cameras with a prime lens. These are better, for some people. It all depends on how serious you are about photography and your best use. I use the D5100 for making professional photographs in a variety of settings: outdoor, studio, weddings, classroom. It is a great camera; just not the best one. Consider it a mid-range machine, but an excellent one. I know a professional photographer that uses his "best" cameras for photographs but uses the D5100 exclusively for taking video.
Will the Nikon D90 use the same lenses as an older Nikon 35mm Camera?
The Nikon D90 is one of the newer Nikon cameras. It comes with a detachable lens that is compatible with other Nikon lenses.
