All you death penalty junkies out there just might find the news disheartening. But there it is in today’s black and white: California’s death penalty machinery is a failed system, deemed “close to collapse.” In other words there is a chance he may not get the death penalty but will remain behind bars serving a 30 year sentence/

No. The death penalty in California was called into question the night of the proposed execution of Michael Morales and will hopefully end in a moratorium on such senseless MURDER. May the person who posted the previous answer to this question fall victim to his own ignorance and truly understand the grave ignorance of the 'eye for an eye' mindset.

EDIT:The last answer is a partial JOKE. Ryan Hoyt deserves to die, do you realise he didnt have any pitty on Nick Markowitz when he shot him 9 times? Was he saying he regretted it when he said "all i did was kill the kid". Wow not murder, its extermination of garbage in our society.

In November 2001 Hoyt was convicted of first degree murder and was sentenced to death. He currently is on Death Row at San Quentin State Prison in California.
