YES! 1,400 people have climbed the mountain, including at least one blind man. The first official person to climb it was Sir Edmund Percival Hillary
The most famous person for climbing Mount Everest would be Edmund Hillary because he was the first person to reach the summit on the 29th May 1953.
Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Norgay Tenzing first climbed Mt Everest in May 1953. There are many people who climbed the Himalayas before them, but the duo reached the summit first. Himalaya was the highest mountain in the world. Also Mt Everest was the biggest mountain in the world. Mt Everest was named after Sir George Everest. But Sir George Everest died. SO THIS IS interesting.
The first solo ascent of Everest was made by the Italian mountaineer Reinhold Messner on the 20th August 1980.It was carried out without the aid of bottled oxygen.Messner's route was via the North Col/North Ridge. Two years previously Messener, partnered by Peter Haebler made the first ascent of Everest without oxygen via the South Col route .

Yes, several people do each year.
In 1978, Reinhold Messner reached the summit of Everest with Peter Habeler without using supplementary oxygen. This was the first time anyone had been that high without artificial breathing apparatus and Messner and Habeler proved what most doctors, specialists, and mountaineers thought impossible. It changed mountaineering forever. Messner repeated the feat, without Habeler, from the Tibetan side in 1980, during the monsoon season. This was Everest's first solo summit.Reinhold Messner and Peter Habeler were the first to climb Mount Everest without any Artificial Oxygen on the 8th May 1978
Sir Edmund Hillary is most Famous for being the first to successfully fight the conditions on Everest in order to reach the summit. Even though he was accompanied by Sherpa man Tenzing Norgay, Ed has accomplished many other things witch he was more proud of, like setting up schools and health clinics in Nepal, Tenzings homeland. Sir Edmund Hillary was knighted when he arrived back from Nepal. He also went to the South Pole, which was a great a complishment for and many of great pleasures. I know that he was from Auckland New Zealand and he was the first to climb the highest mountain in the world, Mt Everest in Nepal along with Tenzing Norgay, a Nepalese mountaineer, but does anyone know what else he has done??
Erik Weihenmayer was the first blind person to climb Mount Everest. He had a large team with him to help him with every step to the top and back down.
Thousands! Hardly anyone looses a body part while on Mount Everest. You would be extremley unlucky if you lost a finger/toe due to frostbite.
