People are entitled to their own privacy, thoughts, and beliefs. Some may believe that gays are unadvertised in society because of some beliefs but others may disagree. If you truly love him, (assuming that you or your friend/s have some sort of a relation to gays) I think it's worth it to just stick with it instead of listening to outsiders and lose someone you really shouldn't. You live only one life. Be wise and careful with your decisions.
