So for instance, if I sell copy paper.
My company wants to move a whole bunch of reams. So they tell the salepeople to offer $25% off to any one of the stores that retail the paper if they buy 50 or more cases. The salespeople call the stores or visit them and make this special offer to generate sales.
Now, to help the stores to sell the paper in their stores, my company develops an advertising (marketing) campaign that offers customers 10% off the paper. My company designs posters and supplies them to the stores to "promote" the sale of individual reams to the public.
