No, but you should exchange rings. It is tradition and so is important to the woman, regardless of what she says. You can buy a nice ring for not much money.

An engagement ring is a "token of love" whereas a wedding band is a promise to your fiancee for life long support and love.

∙ 11y agoIt's a personal choice. Some people give engraved (or not) watches as engagement presents but it is convention for the girl to get a ring as her engagement promise. She is bound by law in most Western countries to return the ring if the engagement is broken as it forms part of the contractual agreement to marry.
The wedding ring is customary, certainly for the woman. In many countries both partners receive a ring.

Sometimes people just use the engagement ring as the wedding ring as well. Some engagement rings come with a matching wedding band. This is called a bridal or wedding set. When are getting engaged, it is tradition that you buy high quality stones such as diamonds, rubies, emeralds, etc. Just something that says that they are worth it.
