When washing hands, try to use cold water - even a small amount of hot water used means this quantity is replaced in your HWC and thus needs to be heated again.
Lastly, keep the coils at the back of your fridge clean and dust free, this way it doesn't have to work so hard to refrigerate - you'd only need to do this twice-three times a year tops.
