  • If you can and have enough money you should definitely get Two. Some ferrets can lonely and stressed if things to do a day and another ferret friend can give both ferrets exercise and comfort. if you spend the day at work or school the ferrets need each other and get very attached!!!!
  • Not necessarily. As pets, you can keep one, and it will be perfectly content if you have plenty of time to play with your ferret as they crave human interaction, two can keep each other occupied if you don't have a lot of time for your ferret.
  • So the answer to your question is: 'No, they don't have to be in pairs - but they would prefer it.'
  • Yes - if they're already friends. Two ferrets provide company for one another. Our two constantly snuggle and play together and one on its own would need more attention from us. However, buying two ferrets who do not know or like one another needs more care.
  • Ferrets are not pack animals. But, due to domestication, they retain more juvenile characteristics (cf.s dogs similar behaviour to wolf puppies). They view their companion ferret as a litter-mate.
  • Yes, ferrets do like to be in pairs but they can be just as happy by themselves. If you are someone who is busy and can't let your ferret out of the cage as much as you are supposed to then you should consider getting another ferret. But you still have to remember that even if you have two ferrets, they still have to be let out to run around and play together. Even if you are thinking about getting another ferret you also have to remember that you may have a ferret that may not get along with another ferret so you may be his only friend.

Yes! Having an extra ferret is less work for you because they have each other when your gone! If you have one, and you leave then come back, the minute you step in they want to play with you! A ferret should have another ferret friend, and it's best when they are siblings!

It's better for a ferret to have a cage mate. Ferrets can live by themselves, but they will require a lot of attention from it's owner to keep them occupied and stimulated. One ferret will entertain himself when given toys and playtime with about 4 hours daily time out of it's cage. Having two ferrets is a good idea if you have limited time to spend. A ferret will not need as much attention from it's owner as two ferrets will keep each other occupied and to play with.

Two ferrets will keep each other company if you are not at home

You might need to check first if Ferrets are allowed as pets where you live, in many areas it is illegal to own them at all, as in Iceland, while in others, you must have a permit, or meet special conditions before permission is granted. In Brazil it is legal to own a Ferret, but you must have a permit to breed them, and the animals must be micro-chipped. It is also very difficult to travel with a Ferret, many airliners simply refuse to transport them. So, this might be something to consider when making this decision.

Then deciding on the number of Ferrets depends on many factors, you might consider the following questions, and how they apply to your lifestyle, available space, time schedule, and the budget you are willing to devote to raising and caring for ferrets.

Do you have the time, and are you willing to give them plenty of time, when they need it to be well adjusted, and happy?

Will you have fun with them and not lose interest, or become bored?

Do you have the money to invest in Vet. visits, cages, supplements, and other necessities to keep them healthy, and happy?

Do you want two, in order to breed them, and have kits?

Do you want two so they can keep each other company, they are very social animals?

Do you spend allot of time away from home? (They sleep 14 to18 hours a day, but are wide awake, and ready to play for hours at both dawn and dusk.)

Will noise during the night or at dawn be disturbing? (They do make noise when playing and eating at dawn, and during the night, but this is their natural internal clock.)

I'd get just the one at first, to learn about it since I don't know anything about Ferrets. Once I was more comfortable, I'd know which was a better fit for my lifestyle. Sometimes it's best to make small changes at first, especially if you haven't any practical experience with a major change, or new addition. Once I felt more comfortable, I would also have the knowledge I needed to make the next decision about getting another one. For more details, please see the sites listed below.

* You don't need to but a ferret will be much happier with a friend. * You don't need to get two ferrets if you have plenty of time and attention to play with one ferret. Two ferrets will keep each other company if left for long periods of time during the day without you. * Two ferrets keep each other company.

Is it good to have more then one ferret or can you just have one?

You can have one ferret but it is recommended that you have at least two. Ferrets are extremely social creatures and need company. Without it they become depressed and may be harder to handle. If you have only one ferret you will need to spend at least 3-4 hours a day playing with the ferret. If you have two ferrets you won't need to spend as long with them as they will play together.

Is it okay to bathe your ferret more than average?

No it is not. A lot of the ferrets scent comes from oil produced by its skin. Bathing the ferret too often causes the skin to produce more oil to replace the oil it lost from being washed. The more you bathe your ferret, the more oil their skin produces, the more they smell. A ferret should only be bathe 2-3 times a year with special ferret shampoo.

What is large red growth at end of ferret tail?

It is probably a tumor. I'd guess it is benign, as I've heard of more than one ferret with a benign tumor on the end of its tail. You should take your ferret to the vet, as this is not normal and could be harmful.

How are the relationships of a ferrets group?

Every ferret has a unique personality. Relationships in ferret groups can vary - One might be the alpha ferret and bully the other ferrets. Then you have a ferret that will have a strong bond with one or more cage mates that if they are separated or one dies, the other might go into a depression, quit eating and die. A ferret that is a newcomer to a ferret group might not be welcomed by the other ferrets and gets picked on or bullied. Female ferrets tend to mother other ferrets. Sometimes a ferret that has been raised alone and then introduced to a group, might be frightened around other ferrets or just not like other ferrets.

Where could one purchase a ferret cage?

One may purchase a ferret cage at Petco, Petsmart, Atwoods, or Walmart.

Should you get a baby ferret or an older ferret?

A baby ferret requires a lot of attention and training, plus they are very active. An older ferret should already have training and not as active as they tend to sleep more. If you've never owned a ferret before, I would recommend getting an older, trained one. Bite and housetraining a ferret takes quite a bit of work and dedication and can be challenging for a first time ferret owner. You can find young ferrets up for adoption that have received the proper training from the shelter.
