Does taking Xanax suppress your appetite?

Zoloft (sertralin) can both supress and augment appetite. Since it is mostly given as an antidepressant, many patients before starting on sertralin have diminished appetite because oc the mood disorder, and, on having an alleviation of their symptoms, may consider their appetite enhanced. Others will experience a craving for sugar/candy/chocolate while still having a diminished appetite. This said, suppression of appetite is listed as a side effect of sertralin. I have had very few patients who experienced a diminished appetite on starting on sertralin. I would guess that tis side effect is less common than the reverse. HTH HAND Gubbslem

I'm on Lexapro and Xanax, and I just ate a whole can of tuna with mayo and vinegar, a glass of Dr. Pepper, and a bag of potato chips, and some noodles for lunch. Last night I ate half a personal Pizza for dinner at 5p.m., then a bowl of cereal when I got home from work at 9pm, and a slice of pepperoni pizza before bed.

So my opinion is if anything, it INCREASES my appetite. But side effects will differ between for everyone.

I have heard, however, that Lexapro can cause nausea in some people for the first week or so while it is taking effect. That happened to my mother when she was taking it.

Xanax (alprazolam) may cause changes in appetite. About one third of patients experience increased appetite, while only a quarter of patients experience decreased appetite.

yup i've been on prozc 3 days now and cant eat as much.

For example i used to eat 2 plates at dinner now i can barely eat 1 plate, i'm stuffed half way through. So yea guess it is :)
