Maud Wright was living on a ranch down in Mexico with her son Johnnie, her husband and a hired Mexican family that helped out on the ranch. When the Villistas came to their home, they sent the Mexican women away with the baby Johnnie, and took Maud hostage. The two men were taken hostage also, but were killed a day or two later. Maud was spared, and remained a hostage until after the raid on Columbus. The Mexican government used the return of Johnnie Wright to Maud Wright as a political news story to show their willingness to work with the Americans in bringing justice to the situation.

Edwin "Buck" Spencer was an African American Ranch Hand on a ranch down in Mexico. On their way to invade Colubaus, the Villista's took him hostage. He escaped during the raid on Clumbus by lying flat on the ground.

A great book that gives details on Pancho Villa, and his raids during the early 1900 until his death is "The General and The Jaguar" by Eileen Welsome. Great book
