My First Day
My first day of college was a disaster. First, I went to the wrong classroom
for math. I was sitting in the class, surrounded by people taking notes and paying
attention to how to do equations, which would have been okay if I was supposed to be in
an algebra class. In reality, I was supposed to be in geometry, and when I discovered my
error, I had already missed the first twenty minutes of a one-hour class. When I got to
the correct class, all twenty-five students turned and looked at me as the teacher said,
"You're late." That would have been bad enough, but in my next class my history teacher
spoke so fast I could not follow most of what he said. The only thing I did hear was that
we were having a quiz tomorrow over today's lecture. My day seemed to be going better
during botany class, that is, until we visited the lab. I had a sneezing fit because of one
of the plants in the lab and had to leave the room. When I finally finished my classes for
the day, I discovered I had locked my keys in the car and had to wait for my brother to
bring another set. My first day of school was so bad that I know the rest will have to be
better.
A sentence that notes an effect that resulted from that cause
The body paragraphs are located between the introductory and concluding paragraphs. The body paragraphs of your essay should support your thesis and give examples.
A short paragraph about science is a paragraph just consisting of a few sentences on the topic of science. As big of a field as science is, it can be on about any topic.
The topic sentence or thesis sentence is just the sentence which states your main idea. Usually, your teacher will assign a topic, and you just have to come up with a paragraph or essay about that. Write the topic on your paper. Now, make a list of everything you know about that topic - look things up in your textbook or using a search engine if you need to! You must decide which of these things is most interesting to you - your paper will be much easier if you write about something that you find interesting. That statement will be the topic of your writing; make it into a complete sentence with correct grammar and punctuation. You might try writing a question about the topic that you want to learn about or to explain - change the question into a statement and you have your topic sentence. ** see the related questions below **
You start your topic sentence with whatever word makes the most sense!
Topic sentence
A topic sentence in a paragraph about pet ownership should be a lead-in to what the paragraph is about. An example of a topic sentence is, Pet ownership is a great responsibility, but the rewards are worth it.
Usually the topic sentence is the first sentence in a paragraph. The topic sentence makes a statement about some topic and the rest of the paragraph explains the topic sentence or gives examples of the topic sentence. For example if this was the topic sentence There are three living species of Kiwi all of which inhabit New Zealand. Then this paragraph would probably tell us what the three species are and where they live in NZ.
