Can a digital cable box ruin a tv?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I think so...my digital cable box was REALLY warm to the touch. When I turned my TV on it played a few minutes then went out. We have had digital cable for about 5 years and no problem...but then the box never was hot either. I think something went wrong in the box and fried my TV. Can't prove it...but my TV was fine until the box heated up....then it didn't work anymore.

What year did TV standard changes to digital?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

February 17, 2009. However, most TV stations will have the options of leaving their analog transmitters for a while longer, if they so choose. How long? Not known, yet, but most will probably shut them off for simple reasons of economics.

Will your Canadian tv work in the UK?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Both analog and digital tuners are likely to be incompatible with British broadcasts but if the television is to be used with a satellite or cable receiver then it is quite possible.

Check the following features:

Does the television handle 230V power supply. An information label on the cabinet will show the voltage range it accepts.

Does the television handle PAL 50Hz standard definition signals? The specification section of the manual may have the information.

Does the HDMI input support 50Hz signals at 576i, 720p, 1080i and 1080p resolutions? If it does, then it will accept British signal formats. Again, the manual may have these formats listed but you may need to contact LG to obtain a definitive answer. However, it is an unusual question to ask so don't be surprised if even the manufacturer doesn't have the answer.

In these days of ever lower prices for television equipment, the cost and effort to ship a television across the Atlantic is likely to outweigh any benefits.

How do you hook up vizio tv to antenna?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

There are a couple of ways to do it though I would recommend one over the other. The satellite box will have RCA connections on the back, yellow red and white. Take those to the same color connections on the back of your TV, noting what the input connections are labeled as on the TV so you can select it with your remote. Hook up your antenna to the RF/Coaxial In connection In the menu of your TV, select "Off-Air" or "Broadcast" for the coax connection and do a channel search/save. If you want to watch something off your sat box, just select what input you hooked it up to in the back. This question was answered with the assumption that your TV has RCA connections, most do, but if not then re-post with specifics/progress etc.

What is a built-in ntsc atsc qam digital tuner?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

An NTSC/ATSC/QAM digital tuner, in the case of a TV, means that the TV supports the NTSC, ATSC, and QAM broadcast standards with its included tuner. NTSC is the old analog over-the-air (OTA) standard, ATSC is the newer digital over-the-air supporting High Definition video and Dolby Digital AC3 audio, and QAM means that the TV can decode digital cable signals without a set-top box.

My internet research indicates that QAM will receive unencrypted broadcasts only. While encrypted channels varies by geography, it seems that most cable stations are encrypted while major networks are not. So, best I've determined, is that if you want more than just the major networks in high def you still need the set-top box or Cablecard.

Is 100hz better than 50hz for tv?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Televisions that are advertised as 100Hz, 120Hz, 200Hz or higher all use computer processing to add new images between the 50 or 60 images that are broadcast each second. They claim to deliver smoother movement and less flicker and in many cases they work very well. The quality varies between televisions so although a 600Hz television should theoretically be better than a 100Hz model, that is not always the case.

Before investing in a television, always take a good look at the image quality and compare different models. It's not always the most expensive television that looks the best.

Can any digital tuner receive freeview?

Freeview is a Television service in Europe and can be received with a set top box or a TV receiver so the way your question is worded, the answer is no. Just because the TV is digital does not mean it is freeview.

What are all the channels you will be able to view with a converter box?

User Avatar

Any television receiver, whether a converter box or an integrated receiver in a television will only be able to receive channels that are being broadcast on the platform that the receiver is designed to use.

Worldwide, there are thousands of broadcasters with many thousands of channels. The answer to the question is to look up the output from local broadcasters to see what is available.

Can you convert your Chapter 13 bankruptcy to Chapter 7 if you had a previous Chapter 7 that was discharged 8 years ago?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

No. A Chapter 13 that is converted to Chapter 7 must have been ORIGINALLY filed at least 8 years from the prior Chapter 7. So, if you filed Chapter 7 in 2001, then filed Chapter 13 in 2005, you can't wait until 2009 and then convert the 13 to 7 since it was filed within 4 years of the prior 7. In this case, you would have to wait until 2009 and then DISMISS the Chapter 13 and re-file a new Chapter 7 after the 8 years from the prior 7 expired. How do you change TV from PAL50 to PAL60?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

PAL 60 is an unusual format that is rarely seen now. Before answering the question, here are some facts about color encoding and frame rates:

PAL is the color encoding standard used throughout most of Europe and other parts of the world

NTSC is the color encoding standard used in North America, Japan and other parts of the world.

Countries that use PAL use a television field rate of 50Hz while NTSC countries use 60Hz.

Therefore, PAL signals are almost always 50Hz but it is quite possible to encode 60Hz signals using PAL. In fact, it is a relatively simple process to take a 60Hz NTSC signal and transcode it to a PAL signal, still at 60Hz. This is far easier to do than to convert the 60Hz signal into a 50Hz one. Some older VHS players and a few DVD players are capable of playing NTSC content and converting it to PAL 60. Many televisions of the same era would accept 60Hz signals although they did not have NTSC color decoders. PAL 60 was the ideal signal format to use with this combination of player and television.

In recent times, most televisions can handle PAL and NTSC at the normal frame rates. PAL 60 (and similarly, NTSC 50) are not used so much. Technically, most televisions are perfectly able to handle these somewhat odd signals but each manufacturer designs the decoding stages in different ways. To make it even harder, it is almost impossible to find out from a retailer or manufacturer whether a particular model will handle PAL 60. The best way to find out is to simply try it.

Can you connect a high definition tv to regular digital cable?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Co-ax cable is quite capable of carrying HD signals as part of a domestic cable service. However, optical fiber is now far more cost effective than copper so it si increasingly used for trunks with copper links carrying signals the last few feet into a home. Some are now taking fiber right into the home.

Regarding video signals within the home, co-ax cable is used to carry composite video (standard definition color signals) and this will not carry HD signals. This is purely because coaxial interfaces for HD in domestic equipment. Coaxial cable is still used widely in broadcast environments to carry SD and HD signals.

How do you make a photo slideshow DVD and play on TV?

User Avatar

You can just use the Windows DVD Maker, to help you make a DVD slideshow of your photos.

You can use Windows Movie Maker. Import the still pictures into it, arrange them on the time line and add any effects, like fades and wipes. When finished use the same software to burn it onto a DVD-r. Your computer will have to be equipped with a DVD writer optical drive.
