What was the first natural wonder of the world?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The first wonder of the world is The Great Pyramid of Giza aka Pyramid of Khufu in Egypt. There have been hundreds of variations but this was a first... The Great Pyramid of Giza was aka the Pyramid of Cheops, which was the Greek form of the name of 4th Dynasty Egyptian King Khufu. It always has been the oldest of the seven wonders of the ancient world, and the only wonder surviving in our days. The other six wonders were the Colossus of Rhodes, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Lighthouse of Alexandria, the temples of Artemis at Ephesus and of Zeus at Olympus, and the Tomb at Halicarnassus. Identification of the seven as miraculous achievements was based on lists from the writings of Historian Herodotus [484 BC-ca. 425 BC] and Scholar Callimachus of Cyrene [ca. 305-240]. The earliest identifications chose the Ishtar Gate of Babylon, over the Alexandria Lighthouse.

Why is the redeemer one of the world wonders?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

In short, it is because leading corporate sponsors, including Banco Bradesco and Rede Globo, lobbied to have the statue voted into the new top seven.

Christ the Redeemer was named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World on July 7th, 2007 by The New Open World Corporation.

It is considered the second largest Art Deco statue in the world and is located at the peak of the Corcovado mountain. It is am impressive statue and symbol of Christianity. Of course a list of seven wonders of the world is highly subjective but this statue is impressive and in my opinion worthy of its status as a wonder.
