My Grandmother was a school teacher in North Carolina around the end of the 19th Century & when she married, she & my Grandfather named their farm Idlewilde Place.
For some reason I want to believe that the name Idlewild came from some 19th Century writer that my grandmother admired when she taught school.
I have been searching for the answer to that question, because I want to name my farm the same name.
As I recall, the name Idlewilde means "a place of peace & tranquility", but have not been able to verify this.
