The Idlewild Golf Course was named after the local Indian name for the area, Idalwild, or peacefull and savage.
I was born in Idlewild 1927. We lived on Garfield or 147th St. Our house was directly across from the golf course. In fact we used to play in the waterhole. Bodies were sometimes found in the swamps. I have in front of me a map that has Major Alexander E. Anderson airport written across the area that is now Kennedy airport. Am trying to date said map. Learned to fly at Flushing airport in 1945 and also flew seaplanes from the Whitestone seaplane base around the same time. Had many fond memories of that time and continued to fly all my life. Have lived near San Diego since 1955. Paul Babcock El Cajon, CA

0 miles, since the airport is (mostly) in the City of Philadelphia.
The Airport is not too far but it is not well connected to the city. Moreover I would not suggest to travel from Ciampino since the airport hasn't the minimum required security infrastructures. If something happens (hope not of course), it would be a tragedy. The lane is too short.... The lane lacks the space to stop the place in case of emergency... Fly to Fiumicino, it's much better!!!
