Can you paint over a zinc coated steel gas tank to protect it from rusting?

It is possible if you treat it or rub it down first, then you can paint over it, that's with normal paint or any other paint types. However, you can paint over rust if you use 8/10 or higher old paint. (it will say on the tin).

∙ 14y agoScrape and sand off paint and rust. Then paint with a rust-inhibiting primer and cover with a rust-inhibiting paint. See Rustoleum.com and Rustbullet.com for good primers and paints to use. That being said, the only truly "rust inhibiting paint" is used by preparing the surface and applying epoxy primer. Anything else will be a temporary cover up that will rust again later.
