First the strength of the wing must be such that it can safely carry the weight of the airplane when flying inverted as well as upright and secondly if the flight is to be inverted for more than about 10-20 seconds at a time it must have been modified to include an inverted fuel feed system to the engine so that the engine will not stop running when flying inverted. Concerning a conventional wing profile (flat on the bottom and curved on top) the pilot manipulates the controls so that the craft will roll over into the inverted position and he/she will keep wings level using ailerons and maintain level flight by pushing forward on the control column. The plane will fly slower with the same power applied than it would if upright because the lift is now being created solely by the force of the air against the bottom of the wing which is now the curved surface that was the top of the wing when flying upright. It is just the wing keeping the plane in the sky by the same force as you experience when holding your hand palm down out in the airstream created by a speeding car and you tilt your hand backward and feel the rushing air try to push it upward. Basically that is why a plane does not fall out of the sky when flying inverted.

Why are forces important to aircraft designers?

Forces are very important to aircraft designers because they have to think about Gravity, Lift, Thrust and Drag.Gravity is what pulls things down. Aircraft designers need to stop the plane from falling down, so they need to make sure the gravity can't bring it down.Lift is the upwards force that allows a plane to fly without being pulled down by gravity. Aircraft designers need to make sure that their plane will go up.Thrust is what pushes the plane forwards. Air craft designers need to make the plane go forward to get to places.Drag is what slows the plane down. Aircraft designers need to make sure the plane will go through the air fast, so they have to make their plane streamlined.Engineers design the aircraft to be as light as possible so it can fly further or carry more cargo. He has to design the structure for the right amount of forces(or stresses) that it will experience in flight. If he over-designs the structue, it will be heavier. If he under-designs it, then it could fail or maybe wear out too soon.

Why are planes fast and maneuverable?

Fighter jets were designed to shoot down enemy aircraft. Because the enemy had fighter jets of their own to protect their aircraft, it was important to make them as fast and maneouverable as possible. It should be noted that the aircraft is only as good as its pilot.
