Could be many reasons. Have the codes read, they will help lead you to the problem. Most auto parts stores will read the codes for you for zip.

You will have to get a OBD2 engine scanner and hook it up and then you can read the codes. Advance auto parts will do that for free. I would just call some parts stores in your area and ask them if thay can scan your truck.
The check engine light must be on so, start with having the DTC's (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) read. The codes will help with determining what is wrong with the emission control system. Most of your local auto parts stores will provide that service for you at no cost.
