i just did a timing belt on my 2.0 l there are marks on the crankshaft, oil pump, balance shaft and the cam shaft belt wheels as well the belt wheels line up with eachother.
-you should be able to put a ruler across the marks.
- for the crankshaft, oil pump and balance shaft there are little arrows( sometimes notches) on their corrosponding gears that will line up with an arrow on the engine block.
if you would like you can give me an email at sagius@academic .rrc.ca and i may be able to help you a lil more if you take some pics and i can point out where the marks should be.
I know of no vehicle where the engine has to be removed to change a timing belt.
You can not set the timing with a timing light on that year engine. The timing is controlled by the PCM./ Power train control module. You must have an oBD2 engine scanner to set the timing. If the timing is off then the check engine light will be on.If you have not removed the distributor are moved it around for any reason then the engine timing is correct already. No need to adjust it. Computer does it.
THE TIMING IS COMPUTER CONTROLLED. It requires an engine scanner to set the timing on that engine.
Yes, the timing belt has to be removed.
The timing chain on the 4 cylinder engine is good for the entire life of the engine. There is no replacement schedule. The timing 'belt' on the 6 cylinder engine is scheduled to be changed every 90 thousand miles. It's strongly suggested the water pump be replaced at the same time since everything needed to reach it has already been removed.
does the oil pan have to be removed to pull the timing chain on the 07 3.9 engine
The V6 engine has a timing belt that's scheduled for replacement every 90 thousand miles. It's strongly suggested the water pump be changed at the same time since everything that has to be removed to replace the pump is already off for the belt replacement. The 4 cylinder engine has a timing chain that does not need servicing. Cheers, Gadget
The timing belt is located behind the timing belt cover on the front of the engine. To get the cover off the top front motor mount must be removed to gain enough clearance to get it out.
it has timing chains on the back side of the engine, it would need to be overhauled (Removed out of the car) to be replaced
That requires an OBDII engine scanner to do that. The ignition timing is controlled by the computor. If you have not moved are removed the distributor then there's no reason to fool with the timing.
you will have to removed the engine mount on the timing belt side. It is removed with a 17mm socket and ratchet. There are two studs coming out of the bottom with 14mm nuts on them. This completely removes the timing belt side engine mount. Using a floor jack, you will be able to jack up the engine enough to access the timing belt cover and remove the bolts with a 10mm socket.
The timing chain itself is not hard to change , but the engine has to be removed to do it, that is why it is such a costly job if taken in to a garage . a common fault i believe on these engines .
