Yes. I volunteer because "community" is an important thing to me. It takes active involvement to fit in where you live and taking "ownership" of where live. Then One is not just visiting or dependent on the "others" for things that get done.
I volunteer at food bank 3 times a month to help with packaging bags of food for needy Senior Citizens & Families.
I volunteer with my local Police department. We check on elders who live alone. We visit schools, libraries & parks. We visit with small business for social & informational contact. Its all public relations. We serve as a citizen positive contact with law enforcement who need good positive contact w/the general public and also to provide positive law enforcement contact w/members of our community.
I work as a volunteer bingo worker once a wk. The income supports our local charities. Otherwise the bingo money would just flow out to the Indian casinos & leave the neighborhood. Some of it does

You could go to your local nursing home, or senior center. They love it when people come to volunteer. It's rewarding for them and you ;)
You can become a care giver for the elderly by: 1. Volunteer at a local hospital 2. Volunteer at a local nursing home 3. Contact Hospice.
It really depends on where you live. It's really hard to find somewhere because most places want someone 14+ to volunteer. I'm 12 years old and I volunteer at a nursing home.

Look in your area for local nursing homes. Each home may need different requirements and you will want to check that you may qualify to volunteer. Look in your yellow pages or search for one closest to you.
There is no cost for a volunteer because a volunteer does it for nothing. They volunteer for what ever it is.

Summer volunteer work is a great idea for any teenager. She could help out by cleaning the local parks or bike trails. Also, she could do some volunteering at a nursing home.
A 12 year old can volunteer in Arizona at a children's hospital, a library, and maybe a nursing home. The child may need parental permission before volunteering anywhere.
I belive it is volunteer led.
