Yes Washington was instrumental in the victory of the US in the War of Independence from Great Britain in the 1770s.
Yes, George Washington was a leader in the Revolutionary war, inwhich he won by encouraging his troops and inspiring them and encouraging them
George Washington was not the president during wartime, however, he was certainly a wartime leader. George Washington was given absolute control over the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. Upon victory, George Washington resigned from his position as commander in order to allow for the colonies to begin work on a democratic government. Not surprisingly, he was elected the county's first president under its new constitution.

George Washington was the Commander in Chief during the Revolutionary War, but no rank other than "general and Commander in Chief" was ever specified. He had previously been a colonel of the Virginia Militia.
The depictions of Washington with the three stars of a lieutenant general do not indicate that it was an assigned rank. It was not until after the war that a uniform system of ranks was establshed, and in 1798 Washington was appointed by President John Adams as a lieutenant general, although he never returned to active service. The ranks used by commanders in the Continental army were Major and Brigadier.
...He was the 1st President so yes... He was the leader of the U.S.A.

Technically yes. George Washington was the president during the French Revolution, but he kept America out of the war. There were no domestic wars during George Washington's term as President (1789 to 1797). Washington was the commanding general during the Revolutionary War (1775-1783) but was not elected President until 1789.
It was not until the term of his successor John Adams (the 2nd US President) that the US again went to war, in the Quasi-War with France in 1800.
