He made other country's jealous because he had accomplished many things. At first his country was jealous of Christopher Columbus. When the king found out that Christopher went on a voyage to bring back treasure but he didn't know where it was. Only De Gama's country did. Also no other explorer could get around the cape of good hope and he was able to and come back alive.
