in 1087 William was fighting to capture a town in France. when his horse threw him violently against the front of his saddle and he got seriously injured. a few days later, weeping and begging god to forgive him for all the blood he had shed, he died!

Norman saddles had very high front pommels and rear cantles of wood covered with leather, intended to help keep a knight firmly in his seat. William's horse reared up suddenly and the front section of the saddle crushed his intestines and stomach, so that he died a painful and slow death.

During a battle against the french, a sudden burst of fire scared Williams horse. The horse stumbled and William fell heavily against the pommel of his saddle. This reptured his bladder and he died of septicaemia.
