many of the countries involved in the affair saw it as a costly war that ultimately got nothing done, leading to increased isolationism particularly in the US and France. Countries such as Germany, Italy, and Hungary thought of the Treaty of Versailles as unfair, or that they didn't get what they wanted out of the deal, which lead to the rise of dictators in Europe such as Hitler and Mussolini
