1- In Second World War, India again supplied hundreds of thousands of soldiers to fight along with the British.

2- In 1940, the British Government made the August offer towards greater autonomy. This seemed to give India all that it had asked for: full independence after the war and the Indian people could make their own constitution, but the Congress rejected this and once again started violent civil disobedience and riots.

3- Meanwhile, 0n 23rd March,1940, Quaid-e-Azam, at a conference of the Muslim League, issued his Lahore Resolution.

4- In 1942, when the Second world war was at it's peak, the British Government sent a delegation to India under Sir Stafford Cripps.

5- His purpose was to explain the Japanese threat to India and in return of Indian support, offer them full dominion status.

6- This plan also allowed provinces the choice to join or withdraw from the Indian union.

7- Muslim league rejected the Cripps offer as it did not concede Pakistan as a separate state for Muslims.

8- Mr. Ghandi passed a resolution in the Congress asking the British to leave India.

9- In 1945, General Wavell, a British viceroy, called the Simla conference. India was given total political power with the viceroy just as a ceremonial figure.
