The demand for all types of goods, but especially war materials, went through the roof during the war years, and before the United States became an active combatant, companies there were able to sell their goods on a "cash-n-carry" basis to all sides in the conflict. This brought in much needed work to the United States, thus enabling previously dormant factories to re-open, employing thousands of previously unemployed workers, and pumping much needed cash into the economy.

After the United States became an active combatant, factories were still kept working overtime fulfilling demand from both the US and its allies, which included the former Soviet Union, which just goes to show that politics really does make for very strange alliances.

How was the Great Depression similar to and different from the economic situation of the last few years in terms of causes problems and government solutions?

the great depression is similar to the recent because the stock market crashed by people investing in things that they could not afford much like in recent years when people would build houses then not be able to may for them but it is different becdause back thern the banks would not be able to give back any money you invesated and now they have to pay you back so much.
