It was easier in the "olden days" because there were no computers running the vehical systems, you didnt have to have a Phd. in computer science, engeneering, or $10,000 dollars in "specilty tools. A big shade tree, half a dozen wrenches and sockets were all you needed to repair the car.
Leaking radiator? drop in a raw egg or some course black pepper, leak was sealed until you got home and got out the propane torch to solder the leak. Do that with a car nowadays...
Flat tire? jack the car up, patch the inner tube, get on down the road. a 30 minute fix...
fuse blown and no spare? wrap the foil from "olden days" chewing gum around the blown fuse. it got ya home....
Fuel filter stopped up? remove it from the carbarator, punch a hole in the screen, replace filter, go home...( buy a $4.00 carbkit and rebuild carb damaged by the of contaniments because of the lack of a fuel filter)
These were just a few ways a person could make an emergency roadside repair to get you into town to a garage, or home where it could be fixed properly.
Repairs were easy, didnt cost you a fortune, and in most cases, the car was ready the next day. No sitting at the dealership or repair shop for days or weeks. That's how the olden days cars made it easier..... for me anyways....
