guy Fawkes died because he got hung by his hands in the tower of London and hung by his neck. then his head got chopped of and put on a spiked stick to warn others.

Apparently Guy, the guy, actually killed himself by jumping from the gallows (the hanging platform) and breaking his neck before his intended hanging. The head-on-a-stick part (and 4 quarters) was part of his sentence for high treason.

Guy Fawkes was one of the conspirators of the Gunpowder Plot in 1605. This was led by Robert Catesby in support of Catholicism, the Roman Catholic church. The new King of Britain was James I, a Protestant Scot. The plot was unsuccessful, and they were caught in the act of laying the barrels of gunpowder in the cellers of the Houses of Parliament. They were put to death in the most gruesome way: hanged, drawn & quartered.

Guy Fawkes and a group of plotters attempted to blow up the House of Parliament ("Big Ben") in London with barrels of gunpowder, which were placed in the basement. The reason they did that was because they wanted to kill King James and the king's leaders.

This was due to a long standing hatred towards the royal family which began with Queen Elizabeth I imposing new laws against the Roman Catholics. When King James I was crowned Guy Fawkes was hoping that the laws will be changed since he felt they were unfair towards the Roman Catholics (He was a Roman Catholic of Spanish origin), but King James I did not change the laws and so Guy Fawkes took the matters in his hands.

However he told one of his friends who told the king and he was hung drawn and quartered for treason.

After his arrest, Guy Fawkes was sentenced to be executed by hanging, on 31 January 1606. As he climbed up to the hanging platform, Fawkes leapt off the ladder, breaking his neck and dying instantly.

His co-conspirators in the Gunpowder plot were hanged, drawn and quartered.

He was sentenced to be hung, drawn and quartered. He cheated the executioners by jumping from the scaffold and breaking his own neck.

He did not manage to actually 'blow up' anything, he was arrested before he caused any damage to Westminster Palace. (Parliment)
