There are several similarities in the way that Native Americans and colonists adapted to the environment. Specifically, both groups had to learn to catch their food, build stable houses, and how to live off the land successfully.

∙ 13y agoBetween France, Great Britain and Spain, the Native Americans certainly developed a closer relationship, rapport and even kinship with the French. Great Britain never quite determined their solution to the Native American question. At times it was move them out of the way or kill them. Sometimes it was a form of seperate but equal. Some assumed that assimilation was the answer. Spain determined to make them Christians and then exploit them in every way possible.

∙ 12y agoWell most colonist made nice with the natives by buying thier land even though the king had given it to them. The Natives showed the colonist how to grow crops and hunt ans basicly servive in America. They saw the colonists as alies that could be helpfull when there was wars with other tribes.

∙ 11y agoIn the early 1800s, the American government wanted to attempt to keep peace with the Native Americans and used trade as a bartering agreement between the two cultures. The white Americans wanted to create a society of dependance so that the Natives would see how important they were to their land. Unfortunately, as these policies became widespread, the Indians took on the white man's way of life and slowly but surely were pushed out of their native lands and put into designated areas. During the time of removal, there was much bloodshed and still to this day, there are negative feelings towards the white man for the pain they caused and hatred they inflicted.

It depends on what you mean by "become acquainted." There are conflicting stories about the early encounters between the European colonists and the native peoples (then called "Indians"). At first, it seems everyone was cordial, and there was great curiosity about each other's customs. But some stories indicate that the colonists wanted to take the Indians' land, or wanted to force them to become Christians (in fairness to the colonists, this was not an era of religious tolerance, so they would have believed they were doing the Indians a favor by converting them to the "true" religion). There were some Indians who did get along with the colonists; but all too many of the native peoples were killed or forcibly removed from their ancestral lands. How long this took is difficult to determine, given that we only have journals and historical reports that cover many years duration, rather than the up-to-the-minute accounts we are accustomed to in our modern age of mass communication.

How did La Salle's settlers get killed?
Robert La Salle owned a fur trading company in the New World. The settlers nearby traded their pelts along with the Native American Indians. Some of the settlers were attacked by Native American Indians. La Salle then set out to explore other lands. His men actually ended up killing him, but there is speculation as to why this happened.
