The Black Death originated in fleas. The fleas then moved onto rats. The rats got carried around on ships to different countries and continents, thus spreading the black death around the world. The Black Death began to spread from fleas that bit mice and rats that were infected with a the black death. The fleas would swell from the infected blood they took in and vomit it out. The Black Death spreads by people who had it and lived in a packed town. The black death also followed the trail of traders, merchants and travellers over land and sea. The the primary source of infection was from bacteria spread by fleas on rats.
First of all the was two type of plague, these were bubonic and pneumonic plague. Bubonic was spread in the bloodstream of flea's. When the flea's had the plague inside them they become hungry and bite rats, the rats then die, however the plague blocks up the flea's stomach which makes them bite the humans, this make the humans catch Bubonic Plague. If you caught bubonic plague you had a 70% chance of death but it was better if you caught it in winter because there were not as many flea's around in winter compared to the other seasons. Bubonic plague would kill you in about 4-7 days. Bubonic plague was mainly spread by trader's via trade routes and even by invader's and invading mongols. The mongols even infected the trader's of Italy and gave them the terrible disease. Now I will talk about the second type of plague, this is called pneumonic plague, the pneumonic plague was spread from Central Asia to the whole of Europe by breathing and sneezing. The terrible thing about this plague is that it killed everyone who caught it with 2-3 days. The Black Death was a terrible plague and killed millions and changed the life of others who survived.

Fleas living on black rats. Fleas, and the fleas spread on rats. Close quarters living (Castles, cramped city's due to walls) helped make it spread even faster.
The people of the middle ages thought that it was the rats and other furry animals that carryed the plage so they killed them all.

However it was the flees on the rats and animals that carryed the plage.

Infected fleas hopped onto rats (most commonly the Black Rat), and then the rat hopped onto ships that were set for other countries. After the rats arrived at the country, the fleas bit at anything and everything - most especially humans.

The Bubonic Plague was caused by the bacteria Yersina Pestis, which is carried by fleas on rats. An infected person could spread the bacteria directly to another person without a vector by contact with bodily fluids.
