Without going into a long detailed explanation, which would have to consist of a semester of Physics plus
a semester of Engineering and would only confuse you anyway, let me just offer the following idea:

Do you ever listen to music or the weather report on the radio ? Do you ever sit and watch a TV show ?
When you go online, do you plug a cable into your computer, or do you have a "wireless" internet connection ?
Have you ever talked on a cell-phone ? Ever used a 'cordless' phone around the house ?
Ever been in a taxi while the dispatcher called the driver and told him where to pick up his next fare ?

I'm not going into how any of these things works. But EVERY one of them does exactly the same thing as
the CB radio that you're asking about in your question.
