a blizzard affects us living things pets and wil animals also. humans have a built in radar screen that makes you leave work early because of driving conditions, but makes you turn into the parking lot of a supermarket to stock up on supplies milk-- bread--cookies--brownie mix-- and a few bags of chips, you also have to stop at the liquor store to buy beer-- wine and brandy in case your hands get cold riding your tractor with its plow attachment. your wife feeling the same sense of providing her family with the basics duplicates exactly what you purchased. the dog has to have a path plowed for bathroom runs the cat won't go out for anything (that's why they have litter boxes, though i never saw a cat actually pick up any litter and put it in the box animals are better equipped than us humans they adapt to winter weather and stockpile some foods, cattle and cows have to have hay dropped where they are and the cows are kept in the barn because they have to be milked. as for non living things what could affect a non living thing? maybe we could run a low voltage heater around the bird bath but other than that you could gaze around the yard with your brandy look out the kitchen window and see every to--tool--bike--footballs basketballs and whatever you told the kids back before Thanksgiving to put in the $2',500 shed you purchased to avoid this calamity you are seeing now. YOU TOLD THEM A MILLION TIMES ABOUT LEAVING THEIR CRAP ALL OVER THE YARD AND NOW YOUR PERFECT VIEW OF THE BLANKET OF SNOW NATURE HAS PUT IN YOUR YARD. one more drink of brandy and I'll go up and talk to those little bastards about ruining the picture of serenity that mother nature has left you. so one more drink after supper and there is gonna be all hell to pay. as you finish telling them the rules you pour another brandy and pull up your favorite chair to see how pretty the yard looks with the lights on especially when it is still snowing and what to your bloodshot eyes appears your youngest son is picking up the toys and such and walking them to the shed and the kids next door and from down the street all gather in your footprint covered with their sleds because you have the perfect slope for getting a good start on their way out to the street and down the hill. and all you can hear is the sound of them laughing as you turn out the light pick up the bottle of brandy and go up to bed with a smile on your face cause that is just what you did when you were young. the happy yells and cries of Yahoo making your dad smile in just the same wayexcept he rolled a couple of joints because he knew the plows would come by after mid-night and clear the roads and what agony the next morning trying to drive when you are more hungover than you think you ever were in you life. and you make a mental note to have your oldest son to pick you up a nickel bag because today is only December 12th and there are going to be a lot more storms. boy you wish you were that little statue of the boy standing in your flower outside the dining room window he don't know how lucky he is not having to drive in this weather.
