Most of the time it is for dominant male spot. Fish have a pecking order and that order is every so often tested. The dominant male gets the food, the women and the choice locations. A fight could also occur from any one of those three named above. Territory is also a very big fish fight causer.

∙ 14y agoDepends on the fish. Most fish will do what is called "locking lips". This is where two fish will approach each other head on and bit each others lips and hold on. Saltwater Tangs have a spur that they will swim beside an opponent and swipe at them. Fins will be nipped, tails eaten in most fish fights thus rendering their opponent helpless and normally therefore dead. They also use fart bubbles. they do this by swimming past them and farting which then creates toxic bubbles and harms the opponent.
