Becoming a more intelligent person takes work, lots of it. The payoff is well worth the effort.

In order to become more intelligent one must increase the amount of information coming in. The information must come in through various reliable sources and address various subjects. Here are a few practical suggestions:

• It is helpful to become an expert on one subject and keep up with developments in that subject. Becoming extremely knowledgeable in one subject that interests you will boost your self-confidence. However, read not only what interests you but expand your scope to read about different issues and different topics. As you learn more factual information it will continue to grow.
• To keep your brain growing you must constantly expose it to new ideas and new skills. An inactive mind stops growing.
• Take learning trips and visit new places of historical interest, museums or nature preserves. Do things that make you think, ask questions and want to learn more.
• Most public libraries have college course type lecture series on many topics. "The Teaching Company" is a great source. Watch video lecture series presented by experts on various topics that you can borrow from the library.
• Explore both sides of any issue and find a few friends with whom you can discuss current issues and other topics that interest you. It is always great to have an older, more intelligent friend who can act as a mentor to guide your quest for improvement and discuss what you learn.
• If you start by doing some of the above you will find many other topics and issues that interest you. Your "to-do" list should never stop growing. Expose yourself to an abundance of different areas and you will find yourself becoming more and more intelligent and more and more self-confident.

These are 2 different questions. Regarding the first part, "smart" has 2 possible meanings: intelligent and knowledgeable. Intelligence is the ability to learn. One's intelligence, after about age 6, is a constant. You can't become more intelligent. Knowledge, however, is easily increased. Just read books. Regarding the second part of your question, happiness is the natural state of a human being. So if you're not happy, then the reason for the unhappiness needs to be figured out, and the problem solved. There are many possible reasons for unhappiness, but they can be divided between internal and external. External reasons might be poverty, hunger, verbal or physical abuse, illness, having an unfulfilling job, and many others. Internal reasons would include depression and anxiety, and other psychiatric illnesses (including personality disorders). If you think your reason for being unhappy is internal, then you should simply see a doctor. There are excellent medications for depression, anxiety, etc.

Presence of mind-. If you have you have good concentration you will have good presence of mind.

Concentration can be improved by keeping your mind still. Stable or still mind can be achieved with meditation.A dull mind cannot be intelligent . an active mind lives in present .

Imagination: imagination does not mean day dreaming it means creative writing creative ideas, something creative, painting,games and all sort of sources of recreation that can help you increasing your imagination power.

imagination is just manipulation of knowledge and bringing to the world some new nonsense which would when accepted by world will be considered as common sense.

one more important thing is giving time to yourself and your task i.e., you must sit with you mind and your task then you can create something.which is only possible with stable mind

There is nothing called as brilliance which exist of its own . a brilliant person never identify his brilliance that exist in himself.But an overconfident may claim so,but brilliant believes in himself and do not compare his brilliance with others because it result to feel superior or inferior.
