The best way to build anything is with a set of plans. You can get them from simple to complex. You can find them in woodworking magazines, woodworking catalogs, etc.
The way I build many things is from the bottom up and the inside out. Materials: Thin plywood, usually 1/8", 3/16", or 1/4", square sticks, 1/4" x 1/4" for the frame and/or support.
There are many ways to construct your project. Here are a few tips: Find something that is square, (a true 90 degrees) use this for building the corners for your house. Use a good wood glue, and when you glue the edges together, use painters tape (found in the paint department at home centers) to bind both edges. Let the glue dry for 3 hours.
Remember, if your walls are square and straight, everything will go together much easier and faster. Another thing, you will be able to find most of your materials at hobby or craft shops, including plans. Make a list of what you need and ask the sales person. Good Luck!!
