By weight.. one strap or chain per 5,000 loads max, and additional straps or chains if you feel they're necessary. Length of the load also determines number of straps, and there should be at least one for every five to six feet of load length minimum, regardless of the weight.

Can you haul a jet ski in the back of a truck?

Yes, provided the weight is not too much for the truck, or you can lift the jet ski onto the truck, and you can secure it safely on the truck with ropes and straps. A low trailer with drop down ramps, pulled behind the truck, may be an easier means to transport the jet ski.

Where do you load a couch in a moving truck?

Wherever you can fit it. If you have enough space. kust place it in the truck as you would in your living room. If there's not much space for all your belongings, stand it on it's side and load around it (better secure it with straps or a rope as well). Source: http://www.moversneeds.com/

How to Secure a Trailer Truck Load?

The manner in which a load is secured to a trailer truck mainly depends upon the freight needing to be transported. Of course, some types of loads are easier to tie down than others and while certain freights can manage tightly-winched straps, other cargo could sustain damage when under excessive pressure. Regardless of what is being hauled, it is imperative to safely secure all cargo and to use at least the minimum-required straps.Calculating the Needed Amount of StrapsFirst, the empty trailer must be weighed using a certified scale. After the trailer truck is loaded, the trailer must be weighed again and the total weight should be subtracted from the empty weight; the final figure is called the load weight. If using a standard 4-inch strap, note that it is designed to have a 5,000-pound load capacity. When the load weight is determined, divide that figure by 5,000 pounds, which will accurately measure the number of straps needed to safely keep the load in place. For example, a load weighing 60,000 pounds will require 12 cargo straps. Cargo that is not evenly spaced or regularly shaped will dictate the use of extra straps.Securing the LoadNow that the needed amount of cargo straps has been determined, it is time to secure the load to the trailer truck. Once the winches underneath the trailer are located, the hooked ends of each strap must be pulled through the guard rail. The hooks should be fastened to the frame’s lips and thrown over the loaded freight towards the opposite side of the truck’s trailer in order for the strap to be threaded through the winch. Each connected cargo strap will need to be tightened by turning the winch in a clockwise direction and subsequently, placing the bar into the hole next to each winch. Finally, all straps must be tightly winched down so no cargo comes loose during transport. Once each strap is adjusted to be taught or slack enough according to the load’s fragility, double check their positions to be sure that the straps are properly securing the loaded cargo.

Is it California law to have gates on all three sides of a flatbed truck?

No, it's California law that cargo on a flatbed truck be secured and a headboard be fitted between the cargo bed and the cab to keep things from hitting the back of the cab. If the best way to secure the cargo is to put gates around it, do that. If Kinedyne straps will work better, use those. Tarps, however, are never for load securement.
