The ignition control module on a 2.5L Fiero is changed by removing the lower steering column panel, disconnecting the wiring harness, and unbolting the module. A new module is then bolted in and the wires reattached.
I owned one of these and never saw a ignition box of any kind in this location. The 1985 to 1988 had distributorless ignition. The module is held to the bracket by the ignition coil screws. To change remove the 4 screws holding coils on, seperate the coils from the module, unplug the module, depending on year 1 or two harnes plugs. To assemble reverse process.
1984n the module lives under the rotor inside the distributor cap and has two wires from the harnes and two that run to the pick up coil. Two screws and 4 wires to change
No power to ignition switch check fusible links at terminals just to rear of battery. No power to ignition coil, check ignition module inside distributor, fuse, main power connector to rear of battery.
sounds like tooth broke on timing gear.common problem after 80 or 90 thousand miles.
It more than likely needs a tune up. Oil Change, new spark plugs, ignition module, coil or coil pack, distributor cap rotor. There can be a lot of things that can cause poor mileage.
straight down from the front of the air filter. There are 2 coils mounted to the ignition control module. the firing order starting from the bottom of the coil packs is 1-4-2-3. Plug 1 is on the passanger side of the car.
If Its the 4 Cylinder 2.5 engine I know what it is...on the 2.5 there is a module located beneath the distributor cap...I believe it is call an ignition control module... theses modules over time will slowly wear out and when the engine is being run hot ( interstate driving for example) it will affect your spark timing which in turn will cause lack of power and the occasional backfire.
the ignition system would be a HEI or high energy ignition with a distributor cap and rotor. this would refer to the 2.8 liter v6

V6 crank position sensorThe crank position sensor is part of the distributor on a V6 All Fieros equipped with a distributor (1984 - 1986 4-cyl and 1985 to 1988 V6) have the crank sensor inside the distributor. It may also be known as a distributor pickup or HEI pickup.Fieros with DIS (1987 to 1988 4 cylinder) have a crank sensor on the back side (engine side) of the ignition module extending into the engine block. The ignition module is the flat base that the ignition coils are attached to.
You will need a timing light, set it at 10 degrees BTD
the 2.5L motor is one of the easiest engines to work on. If you have a distributer on yours, it is a pain to replace the cap and rotor, and wires, and the DIS ignition module is prone to failure, but its a basic, straightforward engine.
