Every single make, model and year of vehicle is going to be slightly different so its impossible to give a detailed answer. In general however, I'd start by referencing your owner's manual which may have instructions and illustrations. See sources and related links below to lookup the correct back up light bulb part numbers.
the trick to changing a halogen lightbulb is to not touch the bulb itself with bare hands. The oil from your skin will cause it to burn out prematurally. Use a cotton rag or a new pair of gloves to replace the bulb.

A: There is no such a thing as simple circuit if the bulbs are put in series the light will dim if put in parallel both bulbs will light up the same provided the source can sustain the power increase
The filament on normal light bulbs require a higher current of electricity to light up, and are more resistant to electricity as well. This causes it to use more electricity and generate more heat.
The maximum voltage of incandescent light bulbs is up to about three hundred volts. They can also go down as low as 1.5 volts. Incandescent light bulbs are the least efficient lighting system. More modern methods like flourescent lightbulbs are far more efficient.
Modern light bulb filaments are usually Tungsten not Carbon. However early bulbs used things like silk coated with Carbon. Filament means thin thread. The bulbs are filled with inert gas like Argon to stop the filament from burning up with oxygen. Arc lamps use Carbon rods though.
You must first remove the Trunk liner back far enough to get to the light cavity. There are two bulbs that make up the center third brake light. Just twist the light out of the lock position and replace the bulbs with appropiate replacements and then screw back in.
The tail light bulbs are accessible from underneath the back of the truck, up inside the rear of the pickup box.

There are no screws. Open the back hatch and on the inside there are push screws (for a lack of a better term), these can just be pulled out, not as easy as it sounds, this will release the tail light cover and you can change the bulbs easily. There are 2 bulbs on each side. I suggest that you change both. The key to getting your push screws back in is to make sure that the round piece that slides is all the way up.
Unless you are an electronics wiz you change the entire light. If you are an electronics wiz you can get your local electronics supplier to match up the led bulbs with a sample.
Open the trunk and notice all the nuts that hold the light panel to the trunk lid. Remove all those nuts (must be 8 or 9 of them) and unplug the wire harness that feeds the panel. Now you can remove the light panel to service the light bulbs. Because it is a bit of a PITA, I recommend replacing all the bulbs in that panel while you have it out.
