How do you change the oil in a 2000 cadillac sedan?

This can be done on the floor, but it is easyer if you raise the car.

1. remove the oil cap and place on the hood latch.

2. place drain pan under the drain plug on the oil pan (10 quart size or larger).

3. remove drain plug and let oil drain into pan until dripping.

4. replace drain plug in pan and tighten.

5. remove oil filter (front of engine about center from left to right).

Note: this is very little room around the filter to remove and install, use a capwrench (fits over the closed end of the filter) you can usually buy these at the auto parts store where you bought your filter.

Note: look at the new and the old filters at the threaded end. there should be a black rubber gasket on BOTH if there is no gasket on the old one, pull it off of the place where the filter goes on the engine.

6. lubricate the gasket on the new filter with oil and install tighten according to the instructions on the package.

7. pour 7 quqrts of 10W 30 oil into the hole where the oil cap goes.

8. re-install the oil cap.

9. start the engine for 5 seconds (the oil pressure warning light should go out).

10. Stop engine.

11. wait one minute and check the oil level on the dip stick (level should be approximatelyetween "full" and "add" on the dipstick (a little closer to "full" is OK).

10. Add oil if needed.

These engines use oil. check the level every 1,000 miles, add if needed.
