I usually use a small bladed putty knife and water to clean off mine. A power washer will make quick removal possible also. Good luck. After cleaning my trimmer or mower, I have sometimes succeeded in preventing buildup by spraying the underside with heavy duty silicon spray. It doesn't seem to work on all brands, but it is worth the try.
