I had a major fear of sharks myself, but at a young age. All I did was try not to think of them. If that doesn't work try thinking about them and asking yourself why on earth they would hurt you - of all people in the world.

stay in shallow water, don't get in water when you have a cut or are bleeding, and stay in water with a low population of sharks, In the case of attack, bite it back, and poke its eyes, and punch its nose,

the most effiecent way to defend yourself against sharks are the following:

don't were shiny objects in the water

don't thrash around wildly in the water like a wounded seal. sharks mostly go for the easyest kill. when you thrash around like your going into convulsions or shock this makes you look like an easy meal.

there are studys the navy did with sound waves that disturd a sharks energy sense and they cant stand it. some pubic baches have them.

I'm not sure how to get away from a shark because you would probably panic too much and swim away so fast with your legs kicking really hard and fast. That would just make the shark angry. But I know that if you see a shark, you have to be calm and just float on the water without kicking your legs. You can swim with your arms but only gently because if your movements are too rapid, then the shark will come after you and, well, you will die LOL.

There are many things you can do to prevent you and your friends and family from being attacked by sharks. It should be noted that sharks are simply large predatory fish--they are NOT simply wandering, searching the ocean for people to kill. Shark attacks are very rare, and fatal attacks are even more scarce. Most attacks are only investigative; sharks are extremely curious animals. To explain, sharks dont have hands. The way they figure out their environment is by bumping and tasting things with their mouths, which is why shark attacks are usually just one bite followed by the shark leaving. ALWAYS remember that by entering the ocean, you are entering their environment--their home. There is no need to fear them, only to respect them.

Now, as for protecting yourself. There are many things you can do. (1) Avoid swimming at dawn, dusk and nighttime -- these are shark feeding times because this is when normal fish (the sharks normal prey) is least active and easiest to find for the sharks. (2) Never swim alone. Sharks are more likely to attack a person if they are alone than in a group. (3) Dont swim with any open or bleeding wounds. (This may seem obvious, but you never know). (4) Avoid exessive screaming/thrashing. Sharks are built to find prey in distress. By screaming and trashing, you could give the impression that you are a fish in distress. (5) Avoid swimming at river mouths (where rivers feed into the ocean). These are usually good places to find fish -- and anywhere that there is a good place to find fish, is a good place to find sharks (this is also applicable for the water under docks and piers). (6) Avoid areas where people are fishing. Sharks can smell dead fish from miles away. With the smell of dead fish in the water, sharks could be close by. (7) Try to avoid flashy objects/bathing suits. As already stated, sharks are very curious animals. Anything flashy, shiny or bright could intrigue a shark to investigate.

There are many things you can do to try and prevent being a victim in a shark attack. Television shows and news channels sometimes make shark attacks sound common, but in reality, you are more likely to be struck by lightening than be attacked by a shark. As rare as shark attacks are, they do happen. Keep in mind that, although MAYBE 3 people worldwide are killed every year by sharks, MILLIONS of sharks are killed every year by people. When these sharks are caught, their dorsal (back) fins are cut off (many times while they are still alive) and are often tossed back into the ocean, only to sink to the bottom and die. We are the killing monsters, not them. By entering their home, we must always learn to respect the awesome predator that they are.

don't swim at night or early in the day, this is their feeding time. don't wear jewelry or any light coloring clothing. if bleeding or any open wounds stay out of the water they can smell miles away. look for signs of turtles or other small animals moving fast away, these are signs a predator is near. if you want a 100% of attack free stay out of the ocean. this are signs to help you but its not 100% safe.

If you were in the ocean and need to escape a shark hitting them in the nose may do the trick. I have heard experts say the nose area is the softest part on a shark. But, it takes a really good hit or kick to affect the shark.

If you are afraid of sharks, then you have to imagine that they are not real. Don't watch the film Jaws, The Deep Blue Sea, or James Bond's For Your Eyes Only!
