Lures for smallmouth include any that work for largemouth, except you use slightly smaller versions. Crankbaits, jerkbaits, buzzbait, spinnerbaits, topwater plugs, plastic worms, lizards, crayfish.

Live bait for smallies are crayfish, nightcrawlers, minnows, leeches.

If your just starting bass fishing you are going to need to get a decent rod and reel. I would recommend a medium to heavy rod and a good spinning reel. Just stick to the name brands such as Quantum, Shakespeare, ugly stick, and shimano. Some good lures to start out with would be plastic worms, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and some topwater lures. Once you have all of your equipment you will need to find a place where bass live. Once you find a good place just try your luck.

Plastic Worms can be fished multiple ways such as Texas style, Carolina Rigged, or Wacky Style.

Crankbaits are usually retrieved steadily. Make sure to match the diving depth to the water you fishing in. Spinnerbaits are fished by letting them sink to the desired depth and then steadily reeling them in.

Top water lures include buzz baits, poppers, and frogs. To fish buzz baits just reel them in fast enough to kick up the water. With poppers twitch them back pausing after each twitch. Frogs are fished slowly around heavily weeded areas.

Just try different things and see what works best for you.

a panfish is a fish that is deeper than it is longer,

i fished for these scrappy little fish all my life all you need to catch them with is a ultra light action rod, some 4-6# fishing line(stren is the best ive ever used) some #4 size cricket hooks, and a bobber(optional) baits consist of any of the following from best to, not so much........earthworms,crickets/grasshoppers,maggots, small minnows(and i mean SMALL)leaches, and the berkly gulp live baits(they are not real nor alive)

berkly gulp is for the faint of heart who cant kill anything, their baits that arent living but have the action and scent of a live bait.

have fun and remember to take a child fishing

Try a Smaller lure or a lure you wouldn't think about using in that situation. sometime's a different action/size or something the bass don't see on a normal basis can trigger a strike. For me it's a crappie sized crankbait with a larger hook that has landed me some lunker timid bass. Just be creative and watch for any sign's that makes you think that particular lure could work. I.E. The bass nosing up. or follwing. could be a matter of lure color or rigging it a different way.

Largemouth bass are the united state's most sought after fish. Though live minnows work, they will also catch catfish and aren't as specialized for bass. Large mouth bass are primarily caught on various lures. (I have accidentally caught them on hotdogs and worms though I wouldn't recommend it.)

The most popular lure for bass and indeed possibly the simplest is the artificial plastic or rubber worm. You may ask yourself why use a fake worm if you could just use a real one? Simply put the variety of worms is extraordinary, ranging from the 4-10 inch size they have the entire spectrum of colors from a pitch black rubber stick of a worm to a bright green/pumpkinseed sparkle laden twistertail grub impregnated with a salt and cooffee smell. For a beginner that wants to go on the cheap side, buy a $5 packet of scented 5 inch black with green sparkle and a curly tail. Rig it using a "Texas rig" just slip a small bullet weight with the fat end facing the worm. Use a size 2 bass hook (a large hook with an off-set shank.) You can rig it by just putting the hook about 1/4 inch through the worm, draw the hook out and turn the hook around. Finally insert the point back in to the worm and leave the point sicking out just at the barb. This is weedless so you can fish it through most shrubbery. Fish it slowly, let it drop then just weave it back nice and slowly back with frequent stops. The twistertail will make good vibrations. Use the worm as your go to bait. I also recommend brands such as Gary yamamoto and gulp. Also have heard people rave about yum worms though I haven't used them. Use 6-12 pound test for this rig with light to medium action. Hooks, sinker and worms about $10 and can last you many months.

What do bass eat? Bass eat smaller fish and other aquatic animals. They will strike because they are predatorial (hunting) terratorial (defending their nest/spawning area or they might just be annoyed at your lure) and instinctive (biting something for it's shine/vibration.) Worms and crankbaits fall under the predatorial category.

Crankbaits look like tiny fish. They look like shad or minnows or sunfish usually. There are three main categorise, shallo-diving, deep diving, or lipless. Diving Crankbaits have a primarily clear "bill" or lip on their mouths. The bigger the lip the deeper it dives in a wriggle like motion that looks like an injured mini-fish. Shallow crankbaits are great for ponds while deep are great for large deep lakes. Crankbaits are "fish finders" because it looks exactly like a fish. Lipless crankbaits are good for overfished lakes. While crankbaits usually have a forward curved body the lipless crankbaits look exactly like a fish just a rather shiny and well placed one. It travels at the same depth the entire way so go slow. These crankbaits are great in spring. The biggest drawbacks is that they have six exposed hooks (two treble hooks) that they cannot be fished by weeds. There also are soft crankbaits with a hook coming out of the back. AHve never used them but a 20 pound bass was caught off of it. 2 Rapala cranks one green and orangle shad shallow diving and one silver lipless minnow $8 in total.

What do happens when (not if, when) a bass bites. Possibly a series of taps or a large "hit." With our next topic discussion, a topwater lure, which is the cousin of the crankbait, you see the hit.

A topwater is like the name suggests a small fish that is fished at the top of the water with a slow jerky motion.

Smallmouth lives in a lot of deep and clear lakes, but they can be hard to catch because they roam a lot. Smallies that live in rivers or streams are a lot easier. They feed around current, especially in rocky areas that break the current, like rip rap or wing dams on big rivers or rapids in a small stream. Cast your bait to the edge between the fast-moving and slow-moving water and you’ll often find feeding smallmouth here.

I often wonder what type of toolset I should have to prepare seafood in general. Is there any all in one knife set to prepare the vast array of seafood you can find up and down the country. Personally I am finding it really perplexing that I need such a huge toolkit for the kitchen and I am looking for perhaps the standout knife that will give me more than one function in the kitchen such as a fillet knife that doubles up as a knife for cutting Sashimi for example, can you help me with the all in one kitchen knife that’s the perfect accompaniment to any toolbox for the kitchen, professional or hobbyist alike.

Most anglers do not fish for them while they are on the beds, we consider it unsportsmanlike. They will hit a lure dropped into the bed and shaken a bit, but it is not done by most fishermen.
