How do you get audio via HDMI to your receiver if your using the HDMI to send video to your tv?

I take it you are using your laptop to watch DVD etc on your HD TV. I had the same problem where the sound was coming out my laptop. I solved this by going in to the sound options on my computer (which you can access in your control panel) then set your sound default as HDMI. This should solve the problem, just remember to set the default back to the laptops speakers when you are finished using it on your TV.

DVI is compatible with HDMI other than the fact that there is no audio carried with the video signal. The video signal is identical to that carried by an HDMI cable and so this alone proves that statement to be false.

Change the audio input selection on the Pioneer from Auto to Analog. The auto mode expects the audio to come from the HDMI port when it is plugged in.

Toslink (fiber optic) is supposed to be the best for audio, but I've used digital coax and don't notice much of a difference. On a side note, if your tv accepts DVI, then you should know that DVI is essentially the same as HDMI except without the audio. DVI is digital video only.
