A good way to try may be to reboot the machine in safe mode (shut down, re-start and press F8 key repeatedly until you get an options menu up) if the machine will let you log in that way, then run your antivirus and see if it clears it. It may help to download STINGER from McAffee (search for it in Google) it is small enough to fit on a floppy dsk so you can do this anywhere. Hope this helps

How do you remove icons from screen but retain content on hard drive please?

Generally, there are shortcuts to various applications or software on the desktop. I guess you can delete the shortcuts and still find the applications on the "start" menu. But, if the applications are directly saved to the desktop, you will first have to move them to the hard drive and ensure you have a copy of it before deleting. Suggestion: Delete some application shortcut from the desktop which is not important for you. Search the "start" menu and see if you can find it. And then, implement this on the other important applications.

Where is the shortcut area in the windows interface How is it useful for us?

There is no specific "shortcut area" in Windows. You can place shortcuts wherever you like. Shortcuts are useful because they allow us to access programs and data from places that are convenient to us. Typically, we place shortcuts on the desktop, in the start menu and on the taskbar as these places are always accessible.

How do change desktop shortcuts on your blackberry?

Click on the start button, then control panel, and then find an icon that says desktop shortcuts. Well, actually what you do is you figure out what application you want. Then you click on the menu button (the button next to call) and move the icon to the top row. This will knock off one application already there, so choose which you want to boot, it will be the last one, so rearrange till you get your preference. Then when returning to the home, you will see said icon there. I tried it and it works!

What is another name for a computer shortcut?

A shortcut is an icon placed on desktop you can click to get to the program. With this you don't have to go to start menu, then programs , then the program , to get there. Just hit icon on desktop. More on shortcuts: You can make shortcuts not only for programs but also for folders and any files which you frequently want to access. For creating a shortcut you can just select the file or folder, do a right click and then select send to desktop (create shortcut) option. Most of the installation programs automatically create shortcut on the desktop and some give you an option if you want to create a shortcut or not. - Neeraj Sharma

What is the desktop in desktop publishing?

The desktop is the home screen for your operating system, not to be confused with your homepage for your internet connection. The desktop should contain a tool bar at the bottom (if you are operating a PC) with a START menu on the left and a time clock on the right. It normally contains an icon labeled MY COMPUTER, one for RECYCLE BIN, and sometimes one for MY DOCUMENTS. You can also add as many 'shortcuts' to files as you like (I.e. Internet explorer, my pictures, my music, etc.) You can edit the icons for each shortcut as you like. You can also edit the picture displayed on your desktop by going to the control panel and clicking on DISPLAY. There you can edit everything from the color to the size of your icons and even your screensaver.
