Squishing, spraying, starving, subjugating, and suffocating are ways to kill insects. Insects can be killed by flyswatters and gloved hands. They also may succumb to horticultural oils applied against their eggs, insecticidal soap and organic and synthetic treatments against their hatched and mature stages, predatory introductions of natural enemies, removal of their food sources, and suffocation in buckets of soapy water.
kill them with a magazine! or just swing at them with a nearby object XP
If the fly is on a vertical surface - such as a wall - facing upward, slowly raise your arms to a "clapping" position (hands apart, palms facing each other) about shoulder width apart. Do everything slowly. Raise up from behind (below) the fly until one hand is on either side of him. Take your time. Once you have one hand on each side. Count SLOWLY in your head to ten, so the fly forgets any danger he might have felt seeing your hands coming. Count to ten, and then QUICKLY clap right over his body. He will see you coming, get scared, attempt to fly away, and get caught in your clap. He'll fly right into it. You will likely just "stun" him. He will fall to the floor and will not move for about 60 sec. Then step on him.
NOTE: if the fly is facing downward on a vertical surface, or is on a horizontal surface, change your approach angle so you are always approaching "from behind" Remember...SLOWLY! And wait ten seconds. THEN clap over him.
You can suffocate it by putting a container over it for a perios of time, or you can spray it with bug spray or some other liquid. There are a million and one different ways to kill an insect and a milion and two if you count crushing it.
