First open both doors, or lower the windows. Next locate the handles that lock the top to the windscreen. Push in the red button and pull the handles down. Pull the roof back from the winscreen and then raise the back of the roof. The next part refers to Australian Capri's and may be on a different side in America. Using the key unlock the lock located behind the left door and pull up the lever that releases the roof cover behind the rear seat. Raise the cover and fold the roof down. On my car you need to manully push back the hood bows to make them fold properly into the space- if the roof locks onto the rear seat open it again and push back on the roof bows before folding again- the roof should fold downm with no force. Close the roof cover and enjoy!!!
copy down the vin number of the car.take it to your ford dealer and buy a trunk key for your car it will fit the lock that opens the lid covering the folded top.

How do you put the top down on a 1998 Chevrolet Convertible
I assume it is the same as my 1995 Ford Explorer . The button should be DOWN , if the button has popped up then the switch has " tripped " and no power is flowing to the electric fuel pump
I had the same problem with my 91 - It seemed to get stuck on something and not go all the way down. This is what I learned and it worked. The #1 top bow (directly over your head when seated in the front seat of the car) has elastic built in the top pads to help it nest properly. In older Capris the top pads elastic straps have lost tension and doesn't pull the #1 bow back toward the rear of the car. If your convertible frame will not fold down completely, lift it about 6 to 8 inches and locate the #1 top bow. Swing it toward the rear of the car. This will release the binding and allow the convertible top frame and fabri to collapse into the rear storage well. Hope this helps.
I've got a 1993 celica gt convertible. my guess is probably that the convertible version wasn't made until later so the car in general is a different sie. also, the convertible is already a little different shape so the top will have someplace to go when it's down. that room isn't in a normal celica
romove the rubber hose connected to the air box. then remove the 4 Philips screws holding the box down and remove the ignition coil and a 10mm ground connector
It's a cloth cover for the convertible top when it is stowed in the down position.
Convertible.
