I have a 2000 grand caravan and removed drums to check brake pads (which were ok , but needed a power washing) Removing the drums was difficult and I think I used some penetrating oil around the lugs.. then you have to work them off with a hammer and block of wood.. All I remember is that getting off the hubs was very difficult.. so dont expect a miracle till you get it off. (dont have your parking brake on, block your tires well)
remove wheels, release emergency brake and drums will come off.
it the most dumbist qustion ever
cv axle The rear brake drums may be out of round also.
It could have either.
You may want to go to a car parts store, or book store, and get a repair manual for your car. They cost about $16.00 Or, go to a Public Library.
First make sure you use a screwdriver or brake adjusting tool to back the pads away from the drum through a slotted hole on the top back of the plate that holds the brake cylinder. Then tap the drum with a hammer carefully wearing glasses.
The brake pads are actually shoes. The emergency brake relies on the rear brake shoes being applied by tension on the emergency brake cable against the rear drums to hold the car stationary. In other words, the rear brakes double as the emergency (parking) brakes.
measure inside diameter of brake drum (where brake shoes touch drum) and measure outside diameter of brake rotors. usually if you look at wheel side of drums and rotors the size is stamped in millimeters on each
those drums are not pressed on. what you need to do is tap it with a hammer and spin it arround tap it in different spots until it comes loose then pull it off with your hands. be careful not to strike the wheel studs. it might take a few minutes to get it off. make sure the emergency brake is released.
I have a 99 Caravan and the rear brakes are entirely conventional drums. Purchase a Haines repair manual from a parts store and review the procedure before beginning. It is quite easy to perform, but do only one side at a time so you can refer to the assembled side if needed. Have you ever done drum brakes before? Or is this a first time? If it's a first time, I would suggest you watch and learn. If you've done drums before, there is nothing remarkable about the caravan.
Hi there, I just did my passenger side rear brake hose. I have rear drums and just made sure the sliding plate at the adjuster was rust free. I took my grinder a lightly ground the mating face. I also made sure that every spring was on correctly.Hope that helps
Rotors on the front drums on the rear.
